Artist Profile :Born in Udupi, Karnataka. Bhaskar Rao is a self-taught artist who has held more than 20 exhibitions. Starting his career as a sculptor and muralist today he devotes more time to his paintings. He is the recipient of the Karnataka Lalit Kala Award on four occasions, the Award of Honour from the KLKA in 1996 and the Karnataka Rajyotsava Award in 2004. He has held solo shows at Crimson, Bangalore and The Gallery, Chennai and participated in exhibitions in Paris, Hong Kong and Bangkok. He also exhibited at the National Exhibition, Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi and in the 3rd Bharat Bhavan Biennale, Bhopal in 1990.
His paintings are near realistic images of the people from his native Udipi living on the edges of society. They are filled with a strange light and misty glows. Bhaskar Rao lives and works in Bangalore.
