Artist Statement I am interested in assimilating passing thoughts and metaphors in my paintings. Subjects like the sun and moon to 'pure' beings like butterflies and flowers excite me. I am amazed by their multiple hues and their freedom of existence. I realise that these instances can be achieved when one looks at everything with a simple heart. For me painting is a return or a realisation of observing my surroundings. I also take images and ideas from it, which I seek to playfully camouflage with universal ideals. I have constructed an optimistic view which has enabled me to gather upon the various pleasures around me. Through various phases in my life, I have realised that if we search within ourselves, we discover we are essentially child-like. For me, the translation of ideas stemming from ones imagination to an external world through painting is itself very fascinating. Eventually these ideas are played around with and are metamorphosed into the concept of camouflage, where the layers of paint along with ideas are combined to process my paintings. As in few works, I have revealed sections of each painted layer worked upon the surface, wanting each layer to simultaneously play. I feel my paintings help me balance the various energies on one canvas. Like the different ideas, which initiate the painting process, play along with the spontaneity of my painting process. In turn, drawing a similarity to today’s extremely multi-layered and complicated world. I realize like my paintings, the world also needs a balance. To summarize my paintings seek to explore the various dimensions, including the ‘surficial’ and the symbolic which are created in course of a transformation or a situation I have encountered... although additionally these images are camouflaged by patterns, colours and ideas that are manifested by my imagination. Either in the process of working or in images rendered on the canvas... there is a constant masquerade between images and colour with ideas through an objective and subjective presence.
