Artist Profile :

Born in Bangalore in 1949. Mani obtained his Diploma in drawing and painting from the Ken School of Art, Bangalore. He taught Art at his Alma Mater and was the Principal there for several years, thus influencing a generation of young artists. He won the Karnataka Lalit Kala Akademi Award thrice in the 1980's. He has had 20 shows across India. He has participated in 50 group shows, such as the SAARC Exhibition at the Chitra Kala Parishath, Bangalore and the Bharat Bhavan International Biennale of Prints in 1989. His works have been exhibited in Singapore, Hong Kong, London, New York and Germany. He explores the rusticity of the Badami people, and contrasts their dark coloured skin with his vibrant use of colour in their attire. The boldness and sureness of his strokes lends immediacy to his subjects. He lives and works in Bangalore.
